Ludmila Petrushevskaya
Ludmila Petrushevskaya was born on May, 26 70 years ago in Moscow.
When Ludmila Petrushevskaya started her creative activities there was no place for her in literature. Her first book, the collection of stories “Immortal love” was a kind of present for Ludmila Petrushevskaya’s 50th anniversary. Nevertheless, her manuscripts and the theatre began to live throughout the country long before: Roman Victyuk staged “Lessons of music”, Mark Zakharov – “Three girls in blue”, Yuri Lubimov included the one-act play “Love” in a play of Taganka Theatre, the Theatre “Contemporary” staged the play “Colombina’s flat”.
Nowаdays circulation of Ludmila Petrushevskaya’s books exceeded one million copies. Her books and plays are translated in foreign languages of more that 30 countries. Staging of Ludmila Petrushevskaya’s plays has become good practice in Russian and abroad: her plays provide the opportunity to study not only history of literature but the history itself: people, characters, feelings, language, life style – the life itself.
Ludmila Petrushevskaya is the winner of Puskin’s Award granted by Alfred Topfer’s Fund, the State Award of the Russian Federation (for the play “Moscow choir” staged by Lev Dodin), “Triumph” premium, Theatrical Premium named after Stanislavsky, the award of “New drama” festival (for the play “ Bifem”). Ludmila Petrushevskaya was nominated for Bookers Award (her novel “Time is night” is included in the short list).
The publishing house “Amfora” has just issued a new, 10th volume of the collection of stories and novels, it is called “Black butterfly”.
