Grigory M. Kozlov
Grigory Kozlov was born on March,6 1955 in Leningrad. In 1976 he entered Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute, Instrumentation Faculty. During his student years he participated in the faculty amateur theatre headed by Igor Tyrshkevich: played small roles, passed all the steps from lighting technician up to vice director. He graduated from the Institute in В 1980 and worked as engineer for 3 years. In 1983 he entered director’s department of Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinematography majoring in marionette theatre direction under supervision of docent N.P.Naumov.
He became famous after the first play — “Moscow. Prayer for the Cup” which was acknowledged as the best play of 1991/92 season and the best director’s debut. The following works: monoplay of A.Devotchenko “Sasha Cherny’s concerto for the piano and artist” and “Freken Julie” in Krasnoyarsk theatre named after A.S.Pushkin which participated in many festivals and won several awards continued and witnessed the director’s success.
In 2000 the director Grigory Kozlov and his actors won the Russian State Award for the play “Forest” based on A.N.Ostrovsky’s drama and staged in Liteyny theatre.
In 2002—2007 Grigory Kozlov headed St.Petersburg Theatre for Young Spectators named after A.Bryantsev. On the eve of 2007/2008 season he resigned deciding to focus on work with students in his workshop in Theatrical Academy.
Since 1994 Grigory Kozlov has been teaching in the Academy of Theatrical Arts. In 2000 his first course graduated and continued work in Artistic Workshop. The theatre “Artistic Workshop of Grigory Kozlov” was set up on the basis of St.Petersburg Theatre for Young Spectators, once being the famous Ya.Korogorodsky’s “Fifth floor”. Plays of Grigory Kozlov’s graduates Galina Bzygu “A very simple story” and Natalia Lapina “Beginning. The first sketch” are in the theatres repertoire until now and gather full houses. The next course graduates (2005) are young actors who followed the special 5-year programme instead of the regular 4-year one, they entered St.Petersburg Theatre for Young Spectators and other St. Petersburg theatres. Their student work “Our Avlabar” (“Hanuma”) left the house of Mokhovaya Student Theatre and lives its free life on different stages of St. Petersburg.
In 2005 Grigory Kozlov enrolled his third course.
