Maria Stankova: “I want him dead”
On September, 6 in the framework of Moscow International Book Exhibition and Fair in All-Russian Exhibition Center, Conference hall there will the meeting with Bulgarian writer, playwright and scriptwriter Maria Stankova, the Russian translation of her novel “Remedy against evil” has been recently published by the editing house “Olimp”.
The meeting with Maria Stankova will become an unforgettable event for visitors of Moscow International Book Exhibition and Fair. Most of Maria Stankova’s books are dangerous, one of the main topics is death. Her characters die differently: fall down from the balcony, killed by current conducted by the fridge handle. The books are filled with ghosts and bearded women. “Reference book of own murders” was the debut book and immediately acknowledged Bulgarian “Book of the year”. During 10 years of her literary activities Maria Stankova has won all the possible Bulgarian awards. Her books “I want him dead” (transformed in a feature film which will be shown during the Fair), “Seven angry women”, “Three-paw dog” have become bestsellers. In 2001 the publishing house “Stigmati” printed her book “Catalogue of spirits Po” which critics consider to be a new step of the history of Bulgarian literature.
Maria Stankova is also famous for her dramas and plays: “A moment made of ready pieces” (2000); “Hunting of desert hyena” (2001), “A small fairy from a lost lake” (2001), “Anatomy of a spider’s web” (2007) and others. Maria Stankova wrote scripts to many films: “It’s just nothing”, “Marco and Khloe”, “Fox and owl”, “A nomad”, “Bureau of non-standard services”, “Life as a butterfly”, “Miss 311”. Maria Stankova was a script writer of Bulgarian Marionette Political show “Speaking heads”, the analogue of the Russian TV projects “Dolls”. In 2002 the script for the film “Monkeys in winter” won the prize of festival in Karlovy Vary and “Golden rose” in Varna, the film won the prize of National film center as the best film of 2006 and was nominated for Oscar.
During the meeting Maria Stankova will show several films based on her works: “I want him dead”, “Watchmaker”, “Monkeys in winter”. Simultaneous interpreting of films into Russian will be performed by Maria Stankova. Moreover, Maria Stankova will carry enormous dolls which are involved in her famous play “Big laugh”. Maria Stankova will read parts of her play “Lady of spades” in Bulgarian manners as well as her new mysterious and very terrifying stories.
