Days of Bulgarian culture in Moscow
“Modern literature looking forward the genius”
On September, 3 2009 at 3.00 p.m. in Conference hall ¹ 3 there will be an unusual dialogue of the writer Anatoly Korolev and the poet Georgy Borisov, legendary Bulgarian publisher, permanent editor of “Fakel” magazine as well as presentation of their joint work “Kiatus”.
Georgy Borisov’s visit to Moscow will become a landmark for Russian cultural life. For more than 25 years “Fakel” (Georgy Borisov is its editor-in-chief) is a very important source of information about Russian literature in Bulgaria. Many vivid and interesting facts and names existing in modern Russian literature including works of forgotten or earlier forbidden writers of different generations become available in Bulgaria only due to skillful editing and high-quality translations performed by “Fakel” enthusiasts headed by its editor-in-chief Georgy Borisov.
During 27 years “Fakel” published 1 425 authors.
In 1989 following issuing of A. Solzhenitsin’s “Archipelago GULAG” they tried to close the magazine, it survived only thank to assistance of outstanding Bulgarian people, support of “Literaturnaya gazeta” and a number of famous Russian poets and writers. After the political coup “Fakel” was finally grounded as the independent edition of home and foreign literature.
Besides uncontested artistic qualities of the works “Fakel” attracts more and more readers and authors by its open and constructive atmosphere of discussion. The magazine positions itself as all-nation edition which is designed for familiarizing Bulgarian readers with spiritual values and trends of modern civilization.
Its public authority owes to professional selection and high-quality translation of the published texts as well as the personality of its editor-in-chief Georgy Borisov.
Georgy Borisov is the author of poem books “At midday somewhere in the beginning” (1977), “Let the man” (1981), “Gates” (1986), “Comer” (1992), “Live God” (1997), “Karthagen” (2000), “At 3 sharply” (2008), a number of publications of documentary and literary prose including “Khiatus” (2007, together with Anatoly Korolev), journalistic and critical articles, essays, literary questionnaires and talks. His poems are included in all the representative anthologies of Bulgarian poetry in the USA, Great Britain, French, Germany, Russia etc.
Georgy Borisov won many awards: Vladimir Bashev’s award for the best first collection of poems (1977), Big Award for poetry “Golden trinket” granted by the news-paper “Trud” (1999), Ivan Nikolov’s National Award for the best poetical book (2001), Slaveykov’s award for the best lyrical poem (2007) etc.
Is there the genius in modern literature? What does “geniality” means? Anatoly Korolev and Georgy Borisov will speak about it and introduce their joint work under the mysterious and promising title “Khiatus” to readers.
