Andrei G. Bitov is the acknowledged classic of Russian literature, president of Russian PEN-center, Vice-President of the World PEN-centre, dоuble laureate of the State Award of the Russian Federation (in 1992 for the novel “Flying Monakhov”; in 1997 for the novel “The Catechumen”), numerous prize winner: the order “Sign of Honour” (1987), Pushkin’s premium of A.Tepfer’s Fund (Geormany, 1989), Premium for the Best Foreign Book of the Year for the novel “Pushkin’s house”(France, 1990), Andrei Bely Premium (St. Petersburg, 1990), Order “For Merits in Art and Literature” (France, 1993), Premium “Northern Palmira” for the novel “Flying Monakhov” (1997), Tsarskoe selo Premium (1999), medal of Movses Khorenatsy (Armenia, 1999), Premiums of the magazines “Druzhba narodov”, “Novy mir”, “Inostrannaya literature”, “Zvezda”, “Ogonek” etc., I.Bunin’s premium for the book “Palace without tsar” (2006) etc.
Since 1997 Bitov is Honorary Doctor of Erevan State University and Honorary citizen of Erevan.

Bitov is Vice-President of Amsterdam-based European Society of Intellectuals “Gulliver”, member of the Committee for Granting the State Premium of the Russian Federation (since 1997), member of jury of the Premium “Triumph” (since 1992), in 1999 he was a member of jury of the World Essay Contest in Veimar, member of editorial colleges of magazines and literary miscellanies “Novy mir” (since 1996), “Solo”, “Voprosy literatury” (since 1989), “Krug chtenia”, public council of “Literaturnaya gazeta” (1990-1997), member of editing and publishing council of the literary miscellany “Petropol”, council of trustees of the magazine “Drugie berega”. Andrei Bitov is the Chairman of the Commission of Literary Heritage of Andrei Platonov(since 1988), member of the Council of F.M.Dostoyevsky Society (since 1990), President of Nabokov’s Fund in St. Petersburg (since 1992), member of Presidium of Mandelshtam Society.
Andrei G. Bitov is the hereditary St. Petersburg inhabitant who was born in Leningrad in Petrogradskaya side on May, 27 1937.
